News that Kenny Dalglish is being coveted by Shearer for a director of football type role at the club is doing the rounds this morning on the eve of yet another hugely important game in the history of Newcastle United.
The lads travel to Spurs in an attempt to find three massive points. Recent form at the Lane suggests that it may be possible after coming away with all the spoils from there last two outings at the north London ground, with 3-2 and 4-1 victories respectively. Today's emphasis will be on other clubs doing us a favour. In form Fulham travel to Smogside in a match that will see Boro move above us if they manage to get anything from the game. Down the road, the mackems take on Hull, which will see either or both of these clubs pulling away from us in the battle to stay up. Bolton could also do us a good turn at Pompey to keep them looking over their shoulders, especially considering they play their game in hand against Man Utd on Tuesday.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, there's a chance that McLovenkrands, the Duke and Steven Taylor could all return to the squad while Oba remains a doubt due to a groin injury. Long term absentees Xisco and Nacho Gonzales are still nowhere to be seen while there are noises coming from St James Park that Joey Barton has penciled in our home game against Portsmouth as a possible date for his return. Collocini and Enrique look set to miss the trip, leaving us lightweight at the back.
Habib Beye will make his 50th appearance for Newcastle (if selected - he better be!)and we will be looking for an inspirational performance from our man. The games are running out and we need the points.
Howay the Lads.
