Portsmouth (h)

Memories of 1992 come flooding back as Newcastle take on Portsmouth in front of what we hope will be a partisan St James’ Park tonight. Seventeen years ago it was fans favourite David Kelly who proved he had the bottle to go out and become a hero and here is to modern day equivalent Habib Beye doing the same in tonight’s game.

No matter how you look at it, tonight surely has to be three points. With no win in eight games and falling 4 points adrift of safety you’d have to say its make or break. There has been a lot said in the press to get the fans “up for it” going into tonight’s game and talk of handing out flags and scarves etc, but we at Beyewatch know that if the crowd see eleven players on that pitch giving everything for ninety plus minutes, the rest will follow naturally. Luck, omens and superstition may play a part in helping us to win the psychological battle but it’ll be graft and desire that will see us come away with the points.

Team wise, listening to Shearer would suggest we could start with Owen, Martins and Viduka and really push from the off. There’s hope for Enrique returning to the side which would be a massive boost defensively and would see Habib Beye return to his preferred right back slot. In midfield this game is likely to come too early for Barton and Gonzales but we must be due some kind of performance from the so far disappointing Kevin Nolan if he continues to be preferred to Danny Guthrie.

Howay everyone! Fans, Players, anyone and everyone connected with Newcastle United, we really really need a result tonight! Give your all in whatever capacity you can!
