Yesterday we mentioned that Lee Ryder at the Chronicle added a couple of lines about Habib's comeback at the end of an article about Alan Smith.
Our suggestion was that Habib's comeback is surely newsworthy enough for it's own article and viola!!! The very same journalist runs the article 'Habib Beye targets return to face Arsenal'. Does Mr Ryder read www.beyewatch.co.uk or does he just read our minds?! (Lee, if you do happen to read our posts then give us some love on the Chronicle or at least a shout on Blog on the Tyne!).
Anyway, Lee reports that Habib is in a hurry to get back to first team duties and we're looking at 3 to 5 weeks before he's ready to play in the first team, meaning he'll be back around the Arsenal / Chelsea games. Now, everyone here at Beyewatch said "Ha'd on bonnie lad! Nae need to rush!" but if Habib is back for either game and the following run in it will be a much needed boost. Habib is quoted by Lee Ryder as saying:
“We have talked about Chelsea on April 4. But I would like to think I could be back in the team for the Arsenal game."Hopefully the frustration is nearly at an end and the caretakers can say 'come in number 21' as Habib edges closer to fitness. Having met Habib, one thing I can't imagine him saying is the word 'harrowing'. Habib's English is very good, excellent in fact considering it is his second language, but is 'harrowing' in any footballers vocabulary? Perhaps a bit of journalistic licence, or perhaps we're just underestimating our footballer of the year.
“On Boxing Day, they thought four months – now I am one month ahead."
“I want to come back quicker, but the important thing is not to feel any pain when I come back. If it is three weeks, perfect. If it is five, it’s five."
“It was one of the most harrowing experiences of my career."
“I thought my leg was broken."
Lee's interview with Habib runs over two articles, the second focusing more on next season and how much Habib would like to extend his deal further as he enters the final year of his contract. Take a look over at the Chronicle http://tinyurl.com/ddqnls. Needless to say with Habib's ability, commitment and experience we'd endorse any deal that keeps the player involved with the club.
