Well readers, it's nearly the end of 2008 and after the recent Beyewatch Bi-AGM in York I thought I should report on our successes of 2008. Many of the aims found in our original mission statement have been achieved so we will be announcing a range of new aims for 2009. Watch this space!
So. what have we achieved?
- To support Habib in all of his endeavours [Work in progress - Beyewatch has receieved over 28,000 hits from 82 countries. Not bad for a little blog!]
- To provide a platform for people to share their songs about Habib Beye [Work in progress - We have over 80 songs on the site with a bumper December planned. Currently there is a 75 / 25 split in staff / public submissions. The idea is to make song submission easier for 2009!]
- To recognise the genius terrace chants all too often only sang by the few, the ultras and when we're in the away end. [Work in progress - We're getting there! We've yet to have a new song sung at a home game and the vision is to spend some money, get a banner and get the Beyewatch boys from the four corners of the UK to join the singing corner for a few anthems.]
- To meet Habib Beye (preferably pitchside at St James Park) [Complete! - Kevin from Beyewatch spent an hour in the company of Habib in a Newcastle restaurant. Habib was great company, very down to earth and all too pleased to tell us that www.beyewatch.co.uk is in his Mam's bookmarks - more of this another time!]
- To produce an image (genuine or otherwise) of Habib in a pair of speedo's with a red Beywatch life saver device (you know, the red can?) [Work in progress - We found a very talented artist who has already done much of this work but despite offering to produce us a fabulous new logo for the site, we're yet to receive the logo but as soon as we do we'll share..]
- To have a laugh wherever possible and provide the digital glue that keeps 6 geographically dispersed Geordies together.... [Complete! - The Beyewatch Boys have met twice this year with two more meetings planned next year... 2009 might see the first Beyewatch conference with guest speakers, memorabillia and other surprises.]
