We're sorry we've missed a couple of match build-ups recently but Christmas took over and the disappointment of not having a message from Habib Beye to share with you all lay heavy on our hearts.
Despite a spirited second half performance it would seem the gods (and the ref) were not with us. By the end of the match we had no points and no full backs for the foreseeable future. Enrique limped off before the match even got under way with a hamstring injury and judging by his pained expression, Habib would have wished for a strain during the warm-up rather than the jarring tackle he received from the former smog-monster Catermole.
We have no news on Habib's condition as yet with scans likely over the coming days. It has been an unfortunate season so far with achilles trouble already hampering the follow-up to last years brillian debut season. All that's left to say is get well Habib.
As for the rest of the players on the pitch, we can only sympathise. Losing team-mates like flies to injury is unsettling enough but to lose players due to poor refereeing is a sucker punch too many. Seb Bassong was unfortunate to be shown red. What seemed like the worlds longest foul, started with the young Frenchman tugging back Heskey from about 35 yards out. By the time the pair got into the box the linesman was performing a Christmas special of Riverdance and Bassong had let go of 'Big Emile'. If only Seb had held on, Heskey might have managed to stay up having tried to dive for the previous 10 seconds.
A game with 2 penalties should have had 3 and hopefully our make-shift strike force and full back pairing for the Liverpool game can keep up our recent form. As for this Wigan game? One to forget...
Sunday, Monday, Habib Beye
