Well, the predicted carnage of York came to fruition for the beyewatch boys but luckily the Mags starting XI avoided it with a rearguard action remeniscent of the Spartans! Habib Beye shares the credit with the rest of his defence for a brave display in the face of Abramovich's millionaires.
As Bongo downed yet another pint of cider, Bassong and Beye combined to snuff out Malouda and then Cole. JFK calls it our best performance during his reign and interestingly our other manager this season also earned a wonderful draw away to a title favourite. Shearer waxed lyrical on MOTD about our dogged defending and it is typical that our team, who's defence has been lacking of late, should roll their sleeves up and get a draw against the odds. To become successful we need to take this momentum and use it against the Smoggies and Stoke. Just as likely though we will capitulate and find ourselves ruing our inconsistency.
Beye's appearance on MOTD was a welcome surprise for the beyewatch boys. Habib's assessment of the situation? He loves playing for a big club but we must do better as the fans deserve more! Most revealing though was his assertion that we must be a top 10 club. This in contrast to comments about reaching the European qualifying places recently attributed to Michael Owen. Based on where we are right now, top 10 would be fine, and with Beye et al pulling in the right direction we must surely have too much for the likes of Stoke, WBA, the Smoggies and the Mackems.
PS We're bringing back the Habib Beye roundup of scores from various other match reports as we feel that this provides a balanced view against our rose coloured Habib Beye spectacles.
