Last nights friendly was bouyed by some movement up front and passionate support from the South East corner. To our surprise Habib Beye started the match and turned in a decent shift before being rested midway through the second half. Beye didn't look a 100% and it's not immediately clear how bad the injury is. Playing with a knock certainly doesn't seem that sensible at this stage but we appreciate Habib's desire to play for us.
Sporting a pair of green boots, Habib was his usual committed self and appears to be carrying on his excellent understanding with Stephen Taylor on the right of defence. The lumbering Geremi perhaps stifled Beye's forward runs as the Cameroon international all too often hung himself out on the halfway line, rarely beating the opposing full back.
Beye received praise for a number of well timed interventions in the first half and the corner showed their appreciation singing his name to the Boney M tune of 'Daddy Cool'. If you can't remember the tune, check out our Piano Maestro playing it for us on ITV's Soccer Night.
All in all a decent showing from the Mags, the game was open enough to be fun and the small number of fans made it a decent atmosphere for the debutants. Whether it has excited Steve McMahon from Singapore-based global investment company Profitable Group remains to be seen. We're reliably informed that former Liverpool pitbull McMahon was in the directors box, but then again we were told that Habib Beye was unlikely to play!
Sunday, Monday, Habib Beye
Welcome! www.beyewatch.co.uk was dedicated to all forms of Habib Beye propaganda whilst he played for Newcastle United FC. We're looking for Aston Villa fans to take on the adulation.
