Habib Beye put in yet another solid performance for the Mags in a deserved victory over the trotters. Overshadowed no doubt by the exceptional Jonas, Beye eased himself into the season with an unremarkable first half. By the time James Milner moved infield during the second half Beye was in full flow. It was perhaps a night and day performance from an attacking point of view with Habib seemingly content to back up Milner and Jonas who regularly switched flanks in front of him. With Geremi in front of him however, Beye took the initiative and bombed on showing more of his trademark pace and strength. Beye, Milner and Geremi were involved in perhaps the move of the game and perhaps the narrowing of the midfield encouraged the marauding runs.
Beye also made a few vital challenges and supported the centre halves well. All in all a good performance, nothing less than we've come to expect at beyewatch. As for the rest of the team the three new boys continued to impress. The Leazes singing corner give all the players great support but the regular chants of "'he's here, he's there, he's every f*cking where! Spiderman, Spiderman", perhaps revealed who the fans thought was man of the match. The official man of the match, Shay Given, appeared to be back on top form with a string of good stops. Finally, Newcastle look to be a comfortable passing team, not frightened to retain possession but it was only when Owen appeared that the goal threat really materialised. All too often, Oba drifted away from the box to receive the ball meaning the Newcastle team lost their attacking focal point. Should we aqcuire someone in this area in the remaining days of the transfer window then we're sure of an improving season...
