Habib Beye signalled his desire to continue representing Senegal despite missing their summer World Cup qualification matches. Setanta Sports is carrying the story, apparently an interview with an unfamiliar publication or person simply called 'Stade'. Beye is quoted as saying:
"People need to stop speculating about this international retirement, because it never crossed my mind for the moment..."
"Nobody is able to show a material proof that can justify this information...""I never sulked. In 2007, at the same period of the year, I sacrificed my holidays. I’m Senegalese and proud to be called up."
It appears that Beye's break from international football is due to disatisfaction with the Senegalese administration rather than any desire to retire. In any case, Habib's now well rested and presumably ready to bomb on with 'Spiderman' in front of him. We're delighted with the news here at www.beyewatch.co.uk. Our best players should be internationals and should be as proud to play for their country as they are to play for Newcastle. Senegal look well placed to qualify as winners of group 6. They currently sit pretty at the top of the group with 8 points from 4 games and have a trip to second placed Algeria to come in order to cement their place as favourites. Check out FIFA's qualification page if you want to keep up to date with the Lion's progress.
