Why oh why?

Recent reports linking Newcastle to Pascal Chimbonda has left us folks at beyewatch.co.uk a little bemused. It's old news today but the Daily Mail reported yesterday that a £2m bid for the French full back has been turned down. But why are we interested? Of course we need a strong squad but signing someone on Chimbonda's money to be a number 2 to Habib Beye seems crazy. Unless of course Habib moves to centre back (a move we supported ages ago with the song 'Habib Beye at Centre Back'). We'd like to see Habib bombing on from right back again next season with potentially a youngster being mentored by Beye and being blooded in cup competitions.
